The Hope Institute offers outpatient alcohol and drug rehab for adults in Vernon Township, so you can get treatment without leaving home or putting work on hold. Most people attend our intensive outpatient program (IOP) three to four times a week, in the daytime or the evening, and go home afterward.
You will be treated by a clinical team led by Program Director Dr. Susan Woomer, DSW, LCSW, LCADC, at a practice rated 4.9 stars in more than 140 Google reviews. We also treat depression, anxiety and trauma in the same plan when they are part of what you are going through.
Serving Vernon's Lake Communities and Valley Towns
Vernon Township covers about 70 square miles of northern Sussex County and is home to about 22,400 people. Much of life here centers on lake and valley communities such as Highland Lakes, Barry Lakes, Lake Wallkill, Glenwood, McAfee, Vernon Valley and Upper Greenwood Lake. Route 94 is the main road through town, and Vernon is known for Mountain Creek and its stretch of the Appalachian Trail.
Vernon shares its eastern border with West Milford, where our office is. For weeks when snow, work or family make the drive hard, our evening track and virtual IOP help you stay on schedule.
Vernon Addiction Treatment Admissions in 2024
New Jersey recorded 150 addiction treatment admissions for Vernon residents in 2024:
- Alcohol: 66 (44%)
- Heroin: 38 (25%)
- Marijuana: 23 (15%)
- Cocaine: 12 (8%)
- Other opiates: 6 (4%)
Across Sussex County, alcohol made up 52% of admissions and heroin 21%. Heroin made up a larger share in Vernon (25%) than in the county (21%), so our program for Vernon residents covers opioid addiction treatment and medication as well as alcohol rehab.

Suboxone and Opioid Addiction Treatment in Vernon
Opioid addiction responds well to treatment that combines medication with counseling. Our office-based medication-assisted treatment (MAT) includes:
- Buprenorphine, often prescribed as Suboxone, which reduces cravings and withdrawal.
- Naltrexone, which blocks the effects of opioids and alcohol once you have stopped using. It is also used to treat alcohol use disorder.
Medication is always part of your IOP or outpatient plan, so you get the counseling and support that make it work.
IOP in Vernon: Day, Evening and Virtual Options
Our intensive outpatient program meets three to four times a week for about three hours per session, usually over eight to twelve weeks. You can choose:
- a day track if you work evenings or are between jobs,
- an evening track if you work during the day, or
- virtual IOP, the same sessions by secure video from home.
If you need more support, partial care offers several hours of treatment a day. As you progress, our outpatient program and aftercare keep support in place with fewer sessions.
What a Treatment Session Looks Like
Group therapy is at the center of IOP. Talking with other adults who understand what you are going through makes it easier to stay with treatment. You also have individual sessions with your counselor to focus on your own goals.
We use cognitive behavioral therapy to work on the thinking patterns and routines tied to substance use, and motivational interviewing to strengthen your reasons for change. Family therapy is included, 12-step principles are available, and dual diagnosis care treats mental health at the same time.

The Hope Institute has truly changed my life. Walking through these doors was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, but it quickly became clear that I was exactly where I needed to be. The staff here is extraordinary. Every counselor, therapist, nurse, tech, and support staff member genuinely cares about the people they’re serving. They don’t treat you like a number or a diagnosis. They treat you like a person worthy of recovery, respect, and hope. I especially want to recognize Carrie, the director. She is the kind of leader every treatment center should have. I’ve watched her advocate tirelessly for the people here, making sure each person gets the care, resources, and support they need. She is incredibly approachable, down to earth, and always willing to stop what she’s doing to listen. It’s obvious that this isn’t just a job for her. She has created a culture where everyone feels valued, safe, and cared for. Her leadership sets the tone for the entire program, and you can see its impact in every corner of the Hope Institute. The program itself is outstanding. It challenges you to be honest with yourself while giving you the tools to build a lasting recovery. Every group, every therapy session, and every conversation has helped me grow. Recovery isn’t easy, but the Hope Institute has created an environment where healing feels possible. The houses are clean, comfortable, and welcoming. They feel like homes, not institutions. That sense of comfort makes it easier to focus on the real work of recovery. What has surprised me the most is the community. The people here have become some of the biggest sources of encouragement in my life. I’ve laughed, cried, learned, and grown alongside people who understand exactly what this journey feels like. There is something incredibly powerful about recovering together. I came here feeling broken and overwhelmed by addiction. I’m leaving with hope, purpose, and confidence that I can build a better life. The Hope Institute didn’t just help me get sober. It helped me rediscover the person I was always meant to be. If you’re considering treatment for yourself or someone you love, I cannot recommend the Hope Institute highly enough. This place saves lives, and I will always be grateful that it helped save mine.Posted on Google![]()

The Hope Institute changed my life; their program didn’t just help me to stay clean, it also helped me work towards who I want to be, it taught me how to live, how to feel, and how to believe that recovery is possible. The staff are incredible, compassionate, knowledgeable, patient, and committed to helping people heal. Every clinician, tech, and support staff member made sure I felt safe, understood, and respected. I learned tools that I use every day, and for the first time, recovery feels sustainable. The environment is welcoming, clean, and calm. My therapist Jillian listened without judgment, challenged me when I needed it, and supported me when I felt like giving up. This place gave me hope when I had none and saved my life in ways I’ll never fully be able to put into words. I am forever grateful for the guidance, honesty, community, and hope I found herePosted on Google![]()

The Hope Institute truly lives up to its name. They help people recover by creating a safe, supportive, and genuinely positive environment. What really stands out is how welcoming and family-like it feels for both the clients and the staff. You can really see the impact they make on people who come in for the first time feeling scared or confused. Over time, those same individuals begin to open up, come out of their shell, and actively participate in their recovery. That kind of growth speaks volumes about the care, patience, and compassion shown here. Everyone is treated with respect and understanding, and there’s a strong sense of community throughout the program. Recovery here feels hopeful, empowering, and uplifting. I’m truly grateful for the environment they’ve created.Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust. Vernon Alcohol and Drug Rehab FAQs
Is there an alcohol rehab near Vernon, NJ?
Yes. The Hope Institute offers outpatient alcohol rehab at 179 Cahill Cross Road in West Milford, next to Vernon Township. You can attend intensive outpatient sessions in person on a day or evening track, or join virtual IOP from home.
Do you offer Suboxone treatment for Vernon residents?
Yes. Our medication-assisted treatment includes buprenorphine, often prescribed as Suboxone, for opioid use disorder, along with naltrexone. Medication is combined with counseling in IOP or outpatient care.
Can I go to rehab in the evening?
Yes. Our evening IOP track is designed for people who work during the day. Sessions run three to four evenings a week for about three hours each, so you can keep your job while you get treatment.
How serious is it if they want me to go to IOP?
A recommendation for IOP means your assessment found you would benefit from more support than weekly therapy, while still living at home. It is a common and effective level of care for adults who want to get well without stepping away from work and family.
What is the most successful treatment for addiction?
The approaches with the strongest research support combine behavioral therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, with medication when it applies to opioid or alcohol use disorder. Staying in treatment long enough and stepping down gradually also make a big difference, which is why our program moves from IOP to outpatient care and aftercare.
What drugs do you go to rehab for?
People go to rehab for any substance they are struggling to control. The most common in New Jersey are alcohol, heroin and fentanyl, cocaine, prescription opioids and meth. Our outpatient program treats all of these.
