Personal Information*

If you live in West Milford and need more than weekly counseling for drinking or drug use, our virtual IOP lets you do intensive outpatient treatment from home. Sessions run by video three or four times a week, about three hours each, in the day or evening, and most commercial insurance plans cover the program.

The online group is led by the same clinicians who run our office program on Cahill Cross Road, so you work with the same therapists on the same schedule as people who attend in person. Many people who drink or use also live with depression, anxiety, or past trauma, and we treat those in the same plan rather than sending you elsewhere.

Why West Milford Residents Choose Virtual When the Office Is in Town

West Milford covers about 81 square miles, the largest area of any municipality in Passaic County, and the township notes that nearly two-thirds of that land is undeveloped or state-protected forest, with close to forty lakes. From Newfoundland at the south end, the drive to our office is about 14 minutes each way, and from Upper Greenwood Lake in the north it is about 11, before winter weather. IOP meets three or four times a week for two to three months, so that adds one to two hours of driving to every week of treatment.

Virtual IOP keeps the same sessions and the same clinicians and takes the drive out. Privacy is the other reason some people choose it: logging in from home means no one sees your car outside a treatment office.

What West Milford Residents Enter Treatment For

Alcohol is the main reason West Milford residents enter addiction treatment. In 2024, New Jersey recorded 114 treatment admissions for West Milford Township residents. Of those, 68 (about 60%) listed alcohol as the primary substance and 31 (about 27%) listed heroin. Across Passaic County as a whole, alcohol accounted for 34% of admissions, so the township leans far more toward alcohol than the county does.

Our virtual IOP treats alcohol use disorder, heroin and other opioid use, cocaine, meth, and prescription drug misuse. Medication-assisted treatment is available where it fits the clinical picture for opioid or alcohol use disorder.

How a Virtual IOP Week Is Structured

A virtual IOP week is typically three to four sessions of about three hours each, around 9 to 12 hours in total, over an average of eight to twelve weeks. Each session combines group therapy, individual counseling, and skills work on relapse prevention, triggers, and coping. The core therapies are cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing. Family therapy is part of the program, and 12-step principles are available for people who want them.

The day track suits people with evening commitments, and the evening track is for people who cannot leave work during the day. Your clinical team sets the schedule at assessment and adjusts it as you progress.

Who Virtual IOP Fits, and Who Needs Something Else First

Virtual IOP fits adults who can safely live at home, have a private room for sessions, and have a connection steady enough for a three-hour video call. It is often used after detox or partial care, or by people whose drinking or drug use needs more than weekly counseling but not a residential stay.

It is not the right starting point for someone in active or severe withdrawal. In that case our team refers you to detox first, and IOP follows once you are medically stable. The clinical team confirms that online care suits your situation before your first session. If home is not a workable place for treatment, the in-person IOP at our West Milford office runs the same schedule.

Insurance and Starting Treatment

Most commercial insurance plans cover intensive outpatient treatment, though the amount you pay depends on your plan. Verification usually takes about 15 minutes by phone or through our insurance form, and admissions will tell you what your plan covers and what any out-of-pocket cost looks like before you commit. Private-pay options are available if you do not have coverage or prefer not to use it.
