Alcohol Rehab for Ramsey Residents
In 2024, New Jersey recorded 38 addiction treatment admissions for Ramsey residents, and 29 of them, or 76%, were for alcohol. Cocaine, marijuana and other drugs accounted for 3 each. Across Bergen County, alcohol made up 50% of admissions, so drinking is an even bigger part of the picture in Ramsey.
Our alcohol rehab program helps you understand your drinking patterns, manage cravings and build routines that support recovery. When it fits, naltrexone can be added to reduce cravings. We also treat cocaine, opioids, prescription drugs and meth.

Life in Ramsey and How Treatment Fits In
Ramsey is a Bergen County borough of about 14,800 people, bordered by Mahwah, Allendale, Saddle River and Upper Saddle River. Its downtown runs along Main Street, Route 17 runs through the borough, and NJ Transit serves Ramsey Main Street station and the Ramsey Route 17 park-and-ride station.
For residents who commute by train or along Route 17, our evening IOP track means treatment can start after the workday. Virtual IOP is available for weeks when attending in person is not practical.
Outpatient Programs Available to Ramsey Residents
Intensive outpatient program (IOP). Three to four sessions a week, about three hours each, usually for eight to twelve weeks, on a day or evening track.
Virtual IOP. The same sessions by secure video from home.
Partial care. Several hours of treatment a day on multiple days each week for people who need more structure.
Outpatient program and aftercare. Fewer sessions once you are stable, so support continues after IOP.
Therapy, Family Support and Medication
Your week includes group therapy, individual counseling and cognitive behavioral therapy. Family therapy is part of the program, because the people closest to you are affected too. Medication-assisted treatment with buprenorphine or naltrexone is available for opioid or alcohol use disorder, and our dual diagnosis care treats co-occurring mental health conditions.
Signs Drinking Has Become a Problem
Alcohol use disorder can develop slowly, and many people do not see it until it affects their health, work or family. Clinicians look for signs such as:
- drinking more, or for longer, than you meant to
- trying to cut down and not being able to
- strong cravings or urges to drink
- needing more alcohol to feel the same effect
- shakiness, sweating, poor sleep or anxiety when you stop
- missing work or family responsibilities because of drinking
- continuing to drink even when it causes problems with your health or relationships
Two or more of these in the past year can point to alcohol use disorder. An assessment with our clinician can tell you whether outpatient alcohol rehab fits and which level of care to start with.

The Hope Institute has truly changed my life. Walking through these doors was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, but it quickly became clear that I was exactly where I needed to be. The staff here is extraordinary. Every counselor, therapist, nurse, tech, and support staff member genuinely cares about the people they’re serving. They don’t treat you like a number or a diagnosis. They treat you like a person worthy of recovery, respect, and hope. I especially want to recognize Carrie, the director. She is the kind of leader every treatment center should have. I’ve watched her advocate tirelessly for the people here, making sure each person gets the care, resources, and support they need. She is incredibly approachable, down to earth, and always willing to stop what she’s doing to listen. It’s obvious that this isn’t just a job for her. She has created a culture where everyone feels valued, safe, and cared for. Her leadership sets the tone for the entire program, and you can see its impact in every corner of the Hope Institute. The program itself is outstanding. It challenges you to be honest with yourself while giving you the tools to build a lasting recovery. Every group, every therapy session, and every conversation has helped me grow. Recovery isn’t easy, but the Hope Institute has created an environment where healing feels possible. The houses are clean, comfortable, and welcoming. They feel like homes, not institutions. That sense of comfort makes it easier to focus on the real work of recovery. What has surprised me the most is the community. The people here have become some of the biggest sources of encouragement in my life. I’ve laughed, cried, learned, and grown alongside people who understand exactly what this journey feels like. There is something incredibly powerful about recovering together. I came here feeling broken and overwhelmed by addiction. I’m leaving with hope, purpose, and confidence that I can build a better life. The Hope Institute didn’t just help me get sober. It helped me rediscover the person I was always meant to be. If you’re considering treatment for yourself or someone you love, I cannot recommend the Hope Institute highly enough. This place saves lives, and I will always be grateful that it helped save mine.Posted on Google![]()

The Hope Institute changed my life; their program didn’t just help me to stay clean, it also helped me work towards who I want to be, it taught me how to live, how to feel, and how to believe that recovery is possible. The staff are incredible, compassionate, knowledgeable, patient, and committed to helping people heal. Every clinician, tech, and support staff member made sure I felt safe, understood, and respected. I learned tools that I use every day, and for the first time, recovery feels sustainable. The environment is welcoming, clean, and calm. My therapist Jillian listened without judgment, challenged me when I needed it, and supported me when I felt like giving up. This place gave me hope when I had none and saved my life in ways I’ll never fully be able to put into words. I am forever grateful for the guidance, honesty, community, and hope I found herePosted on Google![]()

The Hope Institute truly lives up to its name. They help people recover by creating a safe, supportive, and genuinely positive environment. What really stands out is how welcoming and family-like it feels for both the clients and the staff. You can really see the impact they make on people who come in for the first time feeling scared or confused. Over time, those same individuals begin to open up, come out of their shell, and actively participate in their recovery. That kind of growth speaks volumes about the care, patience, and compassion shown here. Everyone is treated with respect and understanding, and there’s a strong sense of community throughout the program. Recovery here feels hopeful, empowering, and uplifting. I’m truly grateful for the environment they’ve created.Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust. Yes. The Hope Institute offers outpatient drug and alcohol rehab at 179 Cahill Cross Road in West Milford, about 30 minutes from Ramsey Borough Hall. Day, evening and virtual IOP tracks are available.
Do you offer alcohol rehab for Ramsey residents?
Yes. Our outpatient alcohol rehab includes group and individual therapy, relapse prevention, family therapy and, when appropriate, naltrexone to reduce cravings. You can attend on a day or evening schedule.

Is outpatient rehab as effective as inpatient rehab?
For many people, yes. A 2014 research review of intensive outpatient programs, published in Psychiatric Services, found outcomes comparable to inpatient and residential treatment for many adults.
