For Ridgewood adults whose drinking or drug use has started to take over, The Hope Institute provides outpatient drug and alcohol rehab. Treatment takes place three to four times a week, in the daytime or evening, and you sleep at home every night.
Loved ones can take part through family therapy, which is included in our program. Our program is directed by Dr. Susan Woomer, DSW, LCSW, LCADC, and patients rate us 4.9 stars across more than 140 Google reviews.
Serving the Village of Ridgewood
Ridgewood is a Bergen County village of about 26,000 people, with a downtown centered on East Ridgewood Avenue and Van Neste Square. Ridgewood station serves NJ Transit’s Main Line and Bergen County Line, and Route 17, Franklin Turnpike and Maple Avenue carry traffic through and around the village. Ridgewood borders Glen Rock, Ho-Ho-Kus, Midland Park, Wyckoff, Paramus, Fair Lawn, Waldwick and Washington Township, along with Hawthorne in Passaic County.
Our evening IOP track fits a commuter’s day, and the day track suits people who work evenings or are home with children during school hours.
What Ridgewood's Treatment Data Shows
New Jersey recorded 40 addiction treatment admissions for Ridgewood residents in 2024. Alcohol accounted for 28, or 70%. Heroin and other opiates together accounted for 5, marijuana for 3, cocaine for 2, and methamphetamine and other drugs for 1 each. Across Bergen County, alcohol made up 50% of admissions.
Because alcohol is the main concern for most Ridgewood residents in treatment, our alcohol rehab program is central to what we offer, alongside opioid, cocaine, prescription drug and meth addiction treatment.

Family Therapy as Part of Recovery
Addiction affects everyone in a household. Family therapy sessions give spouses, parents and adult children a place to talk about what has happened, learn how addiction works and agree on how to support recovery at home. Family involvement is part of our standard program, not an add-on.
Continuing Care After a Residential Program
If you or a family member is finishing a residential program, the weeks after coming home are an important time to keep treatment going. Moving from round-the-clock care to no structure at all can be hard. Our partial care and intensive outpatient program give you several sessions a week while you return to work and family life, and our outpatient program and aftercare continue as you get more settled.
When you call, let admissions know the date you are leaving your current program so your assessment can be scheduled close to it.
Choosing a Level of Outpatient Rehab in Ridgewood
Your assessment decides where you start:
- Partial care if you need several hours of treatment a day.
- Intensive outpatient (IOP) if you need three to four sessions a week, about three hours each, for about eight to twelve weeks.
- Virtual IOP if you prefer to attend the same sessions from home.
- Outpatient program and aftercare as you step down after IOP.
Therapies and Medication
Sessions combine group therapy, individual therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing, with 12-step principles available. Medication-assisted treatment with naltrexone or buprenorphine can help with alcohol or opioid use disorder, and our dual diagnosis care treats anxiety, depression and trauma at the same time.

The Hope Institute has truly changed my life. Walking through these doors was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, but it quickly became clear that I was exactly where I needed to be. The staff here is extraordinary. Every counselor, therapist, nurse, tech, and support staff member genuinely cares about the people they’re serving. They don’t treat you like a number or a diagnosis. They treat you like a person worthy of recovery, respect, and hope. I especially want to recognize Carrie, the director. She is the kind of leader every treatment center should have. I’ve watched her advocate tirelessly for the people here, making sure each person gets the care, resources, and support they need. She is incredibly approachable, down to earth, and always willing to stop what she’s doing to listen. It’s obvious that this isn’t just a job for her. She has created a culture where everyone feels valued, safe, and cared for. Her leadership sets the tone for the entire program, and you can see its impact in every corner of the Hope Institute. The program itself is outstanding. It challenges you to be honest with yourself while giving you the tools to build a lasting recovery. Every group, every therapy session, and every conversation has helped me grow. Recovery isn’t easy, but the Hope Institute has created an environment where healing feels possible. The houses are clean, comfortable, and welcoming. They feel like homes, not institutions. That sense of comfort makes it easier to focus on the real work of recovery. What has surprised me the most is the community. The people here have become some of the biggest sources of encouragement in my life. I’ve laughed, cried, learned, and grown alongside people who understand exactly what this journey feels like. There is something incredibly powerful about recovering together. I came here feeling broken and overwhelmed by addiction. I’m leaving with hope, purpose, and confidence that I can build a better life. The Hope Institute didn’t just help me get sober. It helped me rediscover the person I was always meant to be. If you’re considering treatment for yourself or someone you love, I cannot recommend the Hope Institute highly enough. This place saves lives, and I will always be grateful that it helped save mine.Posted on Google![]()

The Hope Institute changed my life; their program didn’t just help me to stay clean, it also helped me work towards who I want to be, it taught me how to live, how to feel, and how to believe that recovery is possible. The staff are incredible, compassionate, knowledgeable, patient, and committed to helping people heal. Every clinician, tech, and support staff member made sure I felt safe, understood, and respected. I learned tools that I use every day, and for the first time, recovery feels sustainable. The environment is welcoming, clean, and calm. My therapist Jillian listened without judgment, challenged me when I needed it, and supported me when I felt like giving up. This place gave me hope when I had none and saved my life in ways I’ll never fully be able to put into words. I am forever grateful for the guidance, honesty, community, and hope I found herePosted on Google![]()

The Hope Institute truly lives up to its name. They help people recover by creating a safe, supportive, and genuinely positive environment. What really stands out is how welcoming and family-like it feels for both the clients and the staff. You can really see the impact they make on people who come in for the first time feeling scared or confused. Over time, those same individuals begin to open up, come out of their shell, and actively participate in their recovery. That kind of growth speaks volumes about the care, patience, and compassion shown here. Everyone is treated with respect and understanding, and there’s a strong sense of community throughout the program. Recovery here feels hopeful, empowering, and uplifting. I’m truly grateful for the environment they’ve created.Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust. Ridgewood Outpatient Rehab Questions
Is there an outpatient drug rehab near Ridgewood, NJ?
Yes. The Hope Institute offers outpatient drug and alcohol rehab at 179 Cahill Cross Road in West Milford, about 37 minutes from Ridgewood Village Hall via Route 208. Day, evening and virtual IOP tracks are available.
Can my family be involved in treatment?
Yes. Family therapy is part of our program. Family members can join sessions to understand addiction, talk through what has happened and learn how to support recovery at home.
How do I know if I need IOP or standard outpatient care?
IOP is usually recommended when weekly therapy is not enough, for example if you have tried to cut back and could not, or if use is affecting work or family. Standard outpatient care fits people who are more stable. Your assessment with our clinician will recommend the right level.
Do you offer medication for alcohol cravings?
Yes. Naltrexone can reduce cravings and the rewarding effect of drinking. It is prescribed in our office as part of an outpatient plan that also includes counseling.
